The traditional and current purpose of this book is to provide skills and information to manage emergency conditions. Information is presented in an order which is relevant to the enquire. The student learns how to deal with the emergency and then reads the background to the crisis  and how, perhaps, it could have been avoided.

This book is concern blur the boundaries between hospital and community care. Our primary aim has been to equip the student with the knowledge to deal with crises, but we hope that we shared, in these units, our concern to ensure that nurses are trained also to try to avoid them. 

Emergency care can be defined as the episodic and crisis oriented care provided to patients with serious or potentially life-threatening injuries or illnesses. The philosophy of emergency care includes the concept that an emergency is whatever the patient or family considers it to be.

Goals of first aid:

1. To preserve life
2. To limit the effect of the condition
3. To promote recovery

Most individuals are involved in providing emergency care are concerned with the legal aspect of care. Rescuer are often express fear of doing something wrong, and even being sued. but with proper under standing with the legal principles of concerned with emergency care, training, self confidence, no need for a fear.

Rescuer can be sued held liable for many responsibilities including:

1- Not providing care

2- Rendering improper care.

3- Abusing or mistreating victims ( assault by threatening to physically hurt some one- violating the patient civil rights )

4- Causing injury or damage and threatening victims life.

5- Forcing care on a complete – adult who has refused your care.
